During Hispanic Heritage Month, our seventh and eighth grade students have been learning about Dia de Los Muertos (Nov. 1-2) in Ms. Malika Bryant's Art class. Dia de Los Muertos is a day when many Mexicans commemorate their deceased family members and ancestors and comes at the beginning of November, when many Catholics pray for the repose of the souls of those who have passed before us.
The DC City Council yesterday approved a petition by our Ward 1 council member Brianne K. Nadeau. to rename the 1400 block of V Street, N.W., as "St. Augustine School Way," in honor of our school's unique 165-year history and continued impacted in the nation's capital and beyond. A sign will likely go up by the end of the fall.
St. Augustine School mourns the death of Ms. Marge Maceda, our former first grade teacher, who passed away earlier today. She taught at our school for four years, before retiring earlier this year. We are grateful for her service and extend our condolences to her family.
